Can money buy everything?

My partner is of the opinion that money can solve all the worlds problems! The first time he said this we had a lengthy debate about this – and I was determined to show him otherwise, as I don’t believe that money is the solution to all problems.

Today I had to put this topic on my “Food for (SERIOUS) thought list” as he might just have a point in some absolutely crazy way.

We started off discussing Cape Town’s Green Plan and Helen Zillar’s priorities as a mayor. Our conversation dwelled onto the fact that he believes it is far more important to have a wealthy city with lots of money! With enough money he reckons that you could build parks all over the city and employ ten thousand jobless people to maintain them. Does the man have a point?

Maybe, just maybe it does make sense.

PS Have to add that I am still of the opinion that money is not always the solution. It can definitely never be a substitute for love, commitment and honestly. In addition it can never ever empower or substitute human needs for healthy self-worth and self-esteem.

  1. Have to go with you on this one! Money is the world’s solution to everything, but it has no eternal value. Getting back to what I say about people mattering most – money can make a difference to quality of life – yes – but you can’t buy your way into heaven.

PS I have now spent 15 minutes looking for your time-management posts… isn’t that ironic.

  2. Hope the time management links helped! Additional thought – remembered this:

“Wealth is the product of man’s capacity to think.” Atlas Shrugged [pg 381]

  3. Money makes the world go round, that is true.It is also true that money can solve a lot of problems. The one thing that money cannot buy is happiness. If money could buy happiness then a place like Hollywood would be the happiest place on Earth, which it is’nt.
