“But” This is George Business

I attended a business meeting today that left me completely puzzled. Why is it that most business people (mostly in a small town) are so careless in their business approach? There seems to be few business people who understand that even in a smaller town there is a need for professionalism, business etiquette and honesty.

When I set up a meeting to see someone, I mean business, I am there to get the job done efficiently and effectively. Smoothly and gracefully. I need the hardcore facts to my job and to do this I have to ask the right questions, and get an exact idea of my particular clients expectations. So… I go prepared. I wear appropriate clothing, have a no- nonsense business approach and I know my job. I am mentally geared to see that client when I walk through that door.

I will not sell anything to a client if it is not what they need. I will not just slap something together to charge them for something that is not a solution for their business. I believe that if you run a business where you are so money driven that you don’t value consulting and advising your client adequately, that you will not be in business very long.

Ethics and descent service also build great brands – by consulting your client properly and giving the right advice, you will be creating an experience that lingers in their memory. This is what word of mouth and client references are made of.

I work in both Cape Town and George. In addition, in the last three years the majority of my clients have been from Johannesburg, Cape Town and PE. I treat all my clients exactly the same, regardless of their location. So when I hear the words “BUT, this is George? I want to freak!!! It has nothing to do with it! Why should business here, be any different? Professionalism and ethics are global principles!!!

  1. I agree here 100%. No matter where you operate, you need to treat your client with the care and attention they deserve.
That means you prepare for meetings and put your client’s needs first. You are not there to sell your solution, but rather fulfill their needs.

If you think global and act global then you will be able to do business globally.
If not, well, you don’t worry, your business won’t be around long enough to find out what happens next….

  2. Oh, well said!!! This must be the reason we get along!

Think gobal and act global… might just be my new slogan. Or name?

  3. Imel you are correct, it is a global economy and the net has made that a reality. I have twice in the last three months ordered product over the internet simply because local retailers think they compete locally. The same applies to other industries. To top it all the most frequent complaint I hear from George businessman is that they are not making enough money eapecially when asked about paying reasonable salaries. The reason is simple, your business is going elsewhere.

  4. Oh bravo! If there is one thing that gets on my nerves it is that statement. “Local guys are not supporting us.” Why should they? You should be offering service and be competitive!

If I can get better service from CT and a better price even – why should I buy from George business?
