My “time” thought for today.

You know how you get those moments in life where you simply, DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME? That phase in your life where despite your 17-20 hour day, you just can’t cope…

Well I am having that time now – I’ve even started hoisting the white flag…

Up to know I thought I was the queen of efficiency and time management (my sister is probably laughing now). Generally I like DOING things NOW! Unfortunately with things that I don’t do well (like admin and finance) I PROCRASTINATE. (An evil word deserves capital letters.)

Doing something you can do immediately should not be postponed. Procrastination is BAD, it makes a person feel overwhelmed and overworked without really good reason.

I once attended a Claire Collier “Profile of a Championâ€? course, which is a life skills programme for personal development, empowerment and leadership. In combating procrastination, Claire has an effective solution – LEARN THE POWER OF TEN MINUTES. What can you really do in ten minutes? (Instead of waiting for the clock to strike five) Do filing, create a task list, get back to that client , request those quotes, follow up sales calls… and the list goes on. All these items are things we do everyday and that have to get done – yet we postpone something that can take as little as ten minutes. Ten minutes is truly a deceptive duration.

Procrastination and postponing has a nasty way of getting out of control as the work keeps heaping up.

My advice: Use your time effectively and don’t postpone till tomorrow – tomorrow already holds new tasks and challenges that will need your time. Challenge yourself and see how much you can accomplish TODAY.

  1. I presume it takes about ten minutes to write a post?
Time to start that blog post then…

  2. Sarcasm – I love it (not enought to put me off though)

Correct, it takes 10 minutes a day to blog (but this is only if you suffer from insomnia and seldom/never sleep, then you can pre-plan you blog posts!)

  3. or you can machine gun them out it rapid succession if you are so inclined.
is that not true Mr blog maniac van niekerk?

  4. Absolutely right, Imel! Although even I start to neglect blogging when I get really busy.

Personally I think this extreme time management sucks a bit; there’s only so much one can do in a day. There’s no point in overstressing and working yourself to death. When I get like that I just say “stuff all” and go drink a beer. Feel much better afterwards! :)

  5. Mr Blog Maniac is missing the Dinner – Joomla was more important! Feisty is sulking!

  6. My ride didn’t come through and then got some urgent work so ended up missing Joomla Day in Cape Town. Oh well, will see what I can do next time after the Summer of Code is done – time is not on my side either it seems at the moment. ;)

And yeah, like I’m actually one to talk about bad time management and being busy, haha!
