Can anybody recommend me a dictionary?
I know this is bizarre, but I am in need of a comprehensive dictionary that I can download onto my pc and use when I am offline. Yes, folks, it’s true. I do have moments when I am not online! In actual fact I even have a real life offline.
Back to the issue at hand.
I am currently using wordweb, but I find that this doesn’t quite cut it. I have done a search and have come up with nothing which I consider comprehensive.
What are the copy and content writers using?
Does anybody know of a downloadable dictionary and thesaurus? Ideally open source, but I will opt for a paid version if need be! Basically I would like recommendations on paid versions based on other writers’ experiences. Incidentally shouldn’t dictionaries and all encyclopedias be free?
Please send me your thoughts and suggestions! It will be much appreciated.

I use Google. [define:term] [translate:term]etc…
But then, I’m born genius so I really don’t need all those things. You could always just pop me into your pocket and carry me around.
You’ll be good to go. Your own pocket dictionary if you will.
Ok seriously: I’ll do a bit of a search and let you know. Would fancy one myself.

Dear Pocket Genius
[Thanks you for your comment]
I use Google too, but as I so clearly pointed out, I need something that I can use when I’m offline.
You a little bit bulky to carry around, I am down-sizing all my technology and heading to a paperless, simplistic life with less luggage.
Looking forward to your search results!

Ahhhh, bulky?? Hey, guess that’s a compliment. Thanks.
Sorry, you did clearly point out you’re looking for an offline dictionary. I was getting ahead of myself again.
Be right back with your solution.

Henre - take it as a compliment if you wish. Merely pointing out that bulky isn’t always better

If you run Windows you can download the Microsoft Reader software and the 80,000 word Encarta pocket dictionary from this page. There are versions of Reader for regular PCs, tablet PCs and pocket PCs. Sadly not for the Mac, if you’ve drunk that kool-aid.

mac is not kool-aid, trust me

Steve - Thank you for your feedback. I will have a squize and see how it works. [Thank goodness I don't have a Mac]
