Un Lun Dun
I am busy reading Un Lun Dun by author China Mieville. This excerpt had me in giggles. It must be the cutest sales pitch ever written.
His clothes were made from pages of books immaculately sewn together.
‘What you need –‘ he flourished his sleeve, ‘-is this. The hautest of couture. Be entertained while you wear. Never again need you face the misery of unreadable clothes. Now you can pick your favourite works of fiction or non-fiction for your sleeves. Perhaps a classic for the trousers. Poetry for your skirt. Historiography for socks. Scripture for knickers. Learn while you dress!’
I simply love truth disguised with wit and imagination!
He disappeared behind a screen and flung his paper-and-print clothes one by one over the top. ‘Moby Dick’ he said. ‘Even with small print I have to wear too many undershirts.’ Her emerged in a new suit of the same cut, but adorned with visibly larger letters. ‘The Other Side of the Mountain.’ He smiled flashing his cuff. ‘Considerably shorter.’
This book is imaginative, “politically edgy” and an awesome witty read. I highly recommend it!
