It’s un-cool to be a critical know-it-all

We all know someone like this, right?

They call themselves “perfectionists”. They pride themselves with an eye for detail and a so-called passion for precision. They the type of people that are always right, always know better and think that they alone can get the job done. Thus they spend a fair amount of time nitpicking and scrutinizing every piece of work to find but just one fault - to make them feel better of course.

The fact of the matter is, that in life there is a need for limits, boundaries, balance and consideration. Compassion for other peoples’ feelings will also go a long way. In the very least there should be respect and understanding of other peoples’ thoughts, ideas and contributions. Ideas should be entertained after all!

Let’s face it: just because you think you rock, have mind-blowing ideas and can do better than anybody else, does not mean other people agree or experience you in the same way.

Scrutinizing, analyzing and criticizing everything till kingdom come can become counter-productive. Why? Well, constant over-bearing criticism is de-motivating for the people around you. Instead of encouraging their creativity, ideas, passion and contribution you end up killing creativity and the passion to contribute in any meaningful manner. Think about it – why would anyone contribute and get excited when their ideas are instantly dismissed without proper thought or consideration?

It takes a lot of time finding fault in others’ work or activities. Time, that could have been spent positively - harnessing everybody’s skills, ideas and talent for a greater good.

To the over-bearing critical people out there: at some point you need to sit back and think that it is not cool to be a critical know-it-all. Search yourself – you know I’m right!

  1. I like this blog… Good for a bit of entertainment…

I think an even more irritating class of person is the person who permanently thinks they’re right, tells everyone they are right and then you try and work out what the hell they actually do / have done and you discover they’ve never really DONE anything…

Story of life this week. Hit a nerve!

  2. Entertainment you say? Can’t decide if that sounds like an insult or a compliment in disguise…

    I tell you what:

I will put that on my what to blog about list - the post will be inspired by your comment. I do believe that it will take an entire post dealing with the self-righteous.

    Thanks for your comment.

  3. Entertainment in the nicest possible way!

  4. Radio Review - I will accept that compliment as gracefully as possible ;-) Thanks for commenting!
