‘Bullet point list’ fetish

I am the queen of bullet point lists - I bullet point pretty much everything. This is also my preferred way of receiving things.

I have made this standard operating procedure for my projects and companies. I want to receive everything in bite-size chunks. Everything in bullet points please! Email, strategy, reporting, ideas, actionables ect. Alternatively send me a mind map.

I figured that for a smallish company lengthy strategies and proposals are really a waste of time. In my mind if it cannot be summed up on a page then it probably won’t get done. Dramatic I know. But listen to the logic in my madness:

Often long proposals and plans turn out to be a load of rubbish. Why? Because the person writing it is taking time to make it all impressive with big words, colourful charts and pretty pictures.

It also takes people having to action these documents longer to figure out what it is all about. Time that could have been spent more productively.

A bullet point list of 10 actionables/ideas are far more useful. Why? Well, all the actionable are concise and can be implemented with stealth.

The use of bullet points should be an internal communication law in business… it should also be included in any efficiency training.
