I consider myself an upstanding citizen: I heed Eskom power notifications, I pay tax without trying to cheat , I don’t litter and I recycle. I’m proudly South African, pro 2010 and patient with roadworks. I’m a people’s person and understanding of cultural differences. All and all I’m a high tolerance and annoyingly considerate lass…  I’m the chick that pays the parking attendant with a smile.

It thus really annoys me when I witness someone being truly rude to a parking attendant. What blows my mind is the tactics and lengths people go to not to pay the parking guy. I’m sure that in itself must be time consuming – personally I’d rather just pay and save time.

This morning I witnessed yet another one of those familiar parking dramas: A man in an Audi convertible zooms into a parking  – nearly taking out the pedestrians. He jumps out of his car, dismissively mumbles something at the parking attendant who still manages to stop him  for payment. At this point the guy starts screaming about how he “f***ing hates parking attendants” and how parking in town is absolutely ridiculous.  At this point my tolerance-levels had disappeared and left the city…I felt it my duty to chip in and provide the man with much needed citizen-education.

Bottom line: Pay the freakin’ parking attendant – he is standing there doing his job.  He doesn’t make the rules. Why make his job unpleasant by being an asshole?

I bet you dislike it when you get shouted at for something you have no control over!
