Facebook says: weight loss, hair extensions or egg donation
I often contemplate the effectiveness of online advertising – especially the kind that is based on the information you provide in your Facebook profile.
Before my 26th birthday my Facebook page consisted of car insurance ads. Statistics stated that at 25 I was high risk and in definite need of cheaper insurance. To my delight Facebook tells me that insurance is no longer a concern. Instead I should focus on weight, hair extensions or my ovaries. I’m highly amused that suddenly, natural weight loss, hair like Jessica Simpson and the socially responsible act of donating your eggs take priority. I ask myself: Is this what the average 26 year old woman is into?
Considering that none of the above mentioned sit well within my belief system – it is a problem. Diet tablets are a farce (eat less, move more), hair extensions is maintenance and I will not support the concept of being an egg-donor without regulation. In fact just seeing an egg-donation ad at this point makes me cringe.
There you have it – an entire right-hand column wasted by ad space containing no ads relevant to me. I bet I’m not the only one…
